It's coming right along

I'm already on row 5 and I get to do some freehand work around the embroidered babies. This is fun! Doesn't the sewing machine look huge?

More details of the new side pieces

This 1st picture is looking at the left side, the rest are of the right. Bill moved the take up pole hole forward 1 inch and the back poles back 5 inches. He said that 4 inches would have been okay. I'm calling the motor end of the sewing machine front and the needle end back.

I'm quilting again

I'm working on the quilt for a Princess. The 1st picture shows the carriage really close with the castle to the left.

A new quilting set up -- Yeah!

I have a new quilting set up. It's using the same things only now they're better. I'm still using my Juki sewing machine, but it went to Rick at Wow Quilts and got stretched. (It's cut in half and new pieces of metal put on, etc.) When it came back Bill decided it needed a wider frame so that I can sew the full amount. He cut out new wooden sides and added about 6 inches. Drilled new holes, reinforced stuff, and things I don't even want to know about. The first picture is of some quilting patterns I'm auditoning for a quilt I'm ready to quilt. The tiny princess is from Munnich Design & the castle panto is by Dave Hudson of DigiTech Designs. Back before I had computerized quilting I used to use Dave's pantos and love them. I can still do them but the computer does better. The free hand is just that using the Cruise Control. All the designs are done on one pass with room to spare but then the take up roll hasn't gotten big yet. And yes, I do know that I have the thread in the wrong guide. Didn't notice till I went to actually sew.

It's coming together

The pattern for this block is from Lisa Boyer of Dorkey Homemade Quilts. She made hers in a King size. I can't began to think how many seams that had to take. Now I need to start thinking about quilting and binding it. Maybe add some borders.

We've been having that June Gloom in May this year so it's not bad sewing in the morning and then enjoying the outside around 4 PM when the sun comes out. The marine layer makes Bill's morning tennis games nice too.

Can you believe how many seams need pressing!

A Gift from Janome

Since I registered my upgrade to my sewing machine with Janome they sent me some gifts. This is a wall hanging (about 46" x 46") made with a method called One Stitch. It is an unusual way to make a quilt. You put the strips, etc. on a sticky grid and then add the batting and backing. Using a decorative stitch you sew all the folded edges down. (You sort of do a weave with the folded pieces and cut edges) I never could figure out what she was talking about doing to make mitered corners so I just folded till it worked.
As a reward for making the 108 blocks for Kailyn's quilt, I hung ithe wall hanging in my sewing room to add a touch of Spring. It's on the wall straighter than I took the picture.
What I forgot was now I have to square up those 108 blocks. Ick! My 21 month old helper was counting for me. The only problem is she can only count to 14 and sometimes leaves out numbers. Once she gets to 14 she starts with the days of the week leaving out some of those too. She did get several piles. Now I always thought I could count. When I finished I discovered I was short 3 and had to piece more. I guess neither of us is used to these big numbers.
